Getting Started With HoverCam

Software Installation

1. Plug the HoverCam USB cable into one of USB ports on your PC.
2. Download and install the software at our download page.
3. If you have an old installation and encountered an error message, please uninstall Adobe Air first along with HoverCam Flex (remove the HoverCam Flex directory under C:Program Files.)
4. Click on the camera button to initialize HoverCam, load the preview screen, and start using HoverCam for scanning, visual presenting, or online video conferencing!

Tips & Tricks

1. "Enter" or "Return" key is the same as the "Capture" button.
2. Mouse wheel is the "Zoom In/Zoom Out" key.
3. For showing iPhone and PC screens, please use a white or light background, don't work the black scanning mat which for scanning purposes;
4. Click on the 1:1 button at the bottom of the preview window to see full resolution;
5. Change the settings on the left panel to the right resolution, should be 1600x1200;
6. Suggested lighting: put at least one fluorescent (ideally full spectrum) desk lamp on the side illuminating the device surface at 45 degree angle;
7. Optimal lighting: Two lamps on both sides of the device;

Google OCR^©

Google OCR is still under testing stages at Google, we included it in as one of free cloud solutions. In general, Google OCR service is not very reliable, though constantly improving, with some limitations:

1. The image file formats has to be jpg, png, or gif. Currently, it doesn't take PDF files, or image files with many images rather than texts.
2. The orientation of the texts has be upright, otherwise Google OCR service won't recognize the file at all.
3. If the image is not recognized due to various reasons, the file will not show up in the Google Docs folder.

We're introducing OCR functionality in our upcoming pro version software.

Troubleshooting

Please check if you have Adobe AIR 3.0^© b1 run time installed on your system. If you don't, please download and install Adobe AIR 3.0^© run time from our HoverCam Flex software download page. If you do, but you didn't download the AIR 3.0 from our web site link, chances are you don't have the correct version of Adobe AIR 2.0 installed on your system. You need to first uninstall the existing Adobe AIR 3.0 runtime software, then follow the instructions on the HoverCam Flex software download page.

When you click on the "Camera" button on the upper left corner under the file menu, If HoverCam prompts a message saying: "The camera selected is busy, try again?", please do the following:

1. Click on "No";
2. Close the "Camera" tab;
3. Unplug the HoverCam USB cable from the PC;
4. Wait for 10 seconds;
5. Plug the HoverCam USB cable back to the PC;
6. Click on "Camera" button again, this will bring up the HoverCam preview window;
7. Turn off McAfee virus scan, then uninstall HoverCam Flex Software if Partially Installed.
8. Restart the PC;
9. Turn off McAfee RealTime Scanning^© for 15 minutes;
10. Re-install HoverCam Flex Software;
11. Turn McAfee back on or just wait for 15 minutes;
12. HoverCam should be working properly now. (Step-by-step instruction: PDF)

Q: Is Intel-based Mac OS 10.4 supported by HoverCam?
A: Yes, absolutely, Intel-based Mac OS 10.4 and above are supported by HoverCam Express Software.

Q: Can I use my HoverCam on my Windows PC?
A: Yes, absolutely, you can install Adobe AIR 3.0^© based HoverCam Flex software on Windows XP/2000/2003, which is fairly demanding in computing power. Or you may choose to install HoverCam Manager software, which is offered complimentary to HoverCam owners.

Q: What program should I use for vidwo recording?
A: Yes, Apple's QuickTime Player^© software is a perfect program for video recording. Just start a New Movie Recording, and choose the camera to be "HoverCame Document Camera".

Q: Do I have to use QuickTime?
A: No, Google Picasa^© has an excellent video capture functionality. Download and install Picasa from Google, start the Picasa program, click on the "Camera Capture" icon, and starting recording.

Q: Can I use my HoverCam on Skype?
A: Yes, Skype is the perfect software for this purpose. To set up Skype to use HoverCam, please go to: "Preference" -> "Video" tab, then select HoverCam Document Camera as the camera and save the configuration. Now you're ready for the video conferencing experience with HoverCam.
