Optical character recognition (abbreviated "OCR") is the conversion of printed text to electronic text. This conversion is necessary for text-to-speech. In other words, the HoverCam T5-V can scan a printed page and "read" it back to you electronically. Tesseract OCR comes free with HoverCam Flex but you are by no means limited to that choice of OCR software.
To ensure that documents or books are placed properly under the HoverCam T5-V scanner, we have included Braille markings on the guide mat. There are also "bumps" on the HoverCam post to help adjust the camera. The T5-V makes scanning, OCR and text-to-speech easy.
Although HoverCam Flex comes with OCR software, you are not limited to using our OCR with the T5-V. Many visually-impaired users have a preferred OCR solution. In this case, the T5-V camera can be used thanks to the TWAIN driver. The TWAIN driver makes any software that recognizes a scanner work with that device. In other words, the power of the 5-megapixel camera and the convenience of the Braille mat can be enjoyed with the best OCR software.
Save Desk Space
The T5-V’s extended arm holds its 5 megapixel scanner. It can be folded and telescoped down into the post of the scanner. Fully compacted, it stands approximately one foot tall and fits nicely into a briefcase, backpack or laptop bag.
The HoverCam T5-V scanner has a telescoping neck. In contrast to a goose-neck design, you do not need to reposition the item beneath it when lowering the camera. With a goose-neck design, the lower the camera moves, the further away from the camera’s base it goes. With the HoverCam T5-V, there is no need to adjust the document under the camera when using its mechanical zoom.
Superb Image Quality.
You can expect superb image clarity from the HoverCam T5-V. Its 5 mega-pixel camera is superior to many high end scanners twice its price.
Many document cameras need to re-focus when there is a change under the camera. The focus ring allows for constant focus. The T5-V does not need to be adjusted every time an object moves under the camera.
The HoverCam T5-V's patented digital SmoothZoom technology uses the processing power of your computer to zoom in and out with the spin of the mouse wheel. Along with its ability to scan legal sized documents, the T5-V is a versatile device.
The user places documents under the HoverCam in any way desired. However, this means that a document may not always be straight. The anchoring bumper solves this problem for you. The anchoring bumper is an L-shaped device placed at the edge of the document. HoverCam Flex software recognizes the anchoring bumper and automatically straightens the document. It makes scanning a no-brainer.
Scans up to 11” x 14”
Some users need a dedicated scanner for large detailed images. If you want to capture large documents or books at the highest quality, the T5-V is for you. This also means that the user has some “wiggle room” when placing materials beneath the camera.
Cutting Edge Software.
HoverCam Flex just may be the best software to come with a scanner. Whether you are recording a presentation you give to your co-workers or dropping a scanned image into a PowerPoint presentation, HoverCam Flex makes it easy. Click here for full details on HoverCam Flex.

Built-In LED Lights.
Perhaps lighting conditions are not the best in your office. The HoverCam T5-V makes it easy by providing its own lighting. The LED lights do not require expensive bulbs that need replacement every few months. For the price of the bulb on many other scanners, you could simply buy a T5-V.
Since the HoverCam is so portable, we have provided a method to prevent theft via the Kensington Security Slot. A Kensington Lock is an anti-theft system common to portable electronics such as laptops, computer monitors and video projectors. Locks are generally secured in place with a key or combination lock attached to a rubberized metal cable. The end of the cable has a small loop that allows the cable to be fixed around a permanent object, such as a heavy table or other similar equipment, thus securing it in place. However, when you need your HoverCam to be portable, you simply unlock it and you are good to go.
